Lightbulb Learning is an online GCSE revision platform operated by Philip Halpin, trading as Lightbulb Learning. Everything on this site — lesson pages, guides and tools — is published by Lightbulb Learning and carries our name. How a lesson page is made
Our lesson pages are assembled by software, using AI, from the official specification published by the exam board they cover. Each page states its board and specification code (for example AQA 8463 for GCSE Physics) because the same topic can differ between boards — what your child needs to know is defined by their board's specification, and our lessons are built against exactly that document.
We say this plainly because you should know how the material you are reading was produced. No human author is named on these pages, because no human wrote them. What is human is the editorial system itself: the educational standards, accuracy rules, publication gates and correction policy that every lesson must pass were designed, authored and approved by Philip Halpin, and the system operates under his ongoing editorial oversight. Selected lessons additionally receive an individual human spot-check, and where that has happened the lesson page says so — a page never claims an individual human review that did not happen.
What has to pass before a lesson goes live
A lesson page cannot be published on this site until it has passed a series of automated gates. Curriculum accuracy checks test the teaching content against the specification, and the canonical equations section on a physics page is built directly from official specification data — it is never written by the AI. Educational review checks examine how the lesson teaches: marking claims, common-misconception handling and age-appropriateness for students aged 11–16. Technical publication checks then verify the page itself — its metadata, its links, and that nothing unreviewed can be indexed by search engines. A page that fails any gate is withheld.
These gates were not chosen by the software: what counts as accurate enough, what counts as a material error, and what may never be published were authored and approved by Philip Halpin, and changing them requires his approval. After publication, pages are re-verified and are subject to ongoing sampled human spot-checking. If a check or a reader finds a genuine error, the page is withdrawn from public view while it is corrected — a wrong lesson coming down matters more to us than a page count.
Reporting a mistake
If you or your child spot an error in any lesson — a wrong fact, a misleading explanation, anything — email hello@lightbulblearning.co with the page address. We review every report. If the report is right, the page is corrected or withdrawn; the checks that missed it are tightened so the same class of mistake cannot recur.
Our guides and tools
The parent guides on this site are editorial content, researched against official exam-board and Ofqual documents and linked to those sources so you can verify every claim yourself. Our free tools (revision timetable maker, command-words quiz, quote quizzes) are deterministic — they follow fixed rules and contain no AI-generated answers.
