Terms of Service
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Lightbulb Learning ("Lightbulb", "we", "us", "our"), an online GCSE revision platform operated by Philip Halpin, trading as Lightbulb Learning, of 204 Winchmore Hill Road, London N21 1QR.
By creating an account, subscribing, or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Lightbulb. You can contact us at hello@lightbulblearning.co.
2. Who can use Lightbulb
Lightbulb is designed for secondary school students (typically Years 7–11).
Accounts are created, paid for, and managed by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult aged 18 or over. If you set up or pay for an account for a child, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian (or have permission from one), that you agree to these Terms on their behalf, and that you will supervise their use of the service.
If you are under 18, you may only use Lightbulb with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian.
3. The service
Lightbulb provides revision materials, practice questions, and interactive learning activities aligned to GCSE subjects and exam boards. It is a study aid, and:
- it is not a substitute for school, a teacher, or your exam board's official specification;
- some content is produced with the help of automated systems (including AI). While we work hard on accuracy, it may occasionally contain errors or omissions — always check against your official exam-board materials and your school's teaching;
- we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any exam board (such as AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, or WJEC/Eduqas). References to their qualifications are for identification only;
- we do not guarantee any particular exam result, grade, or learning outcome.
4. Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms.
5. Subscriptions, payments and renewals
Some features require a paid subscription.
- Prices and what's included are shown at the point of purchase. Payments are processed securely by our payment provider, Stripe; we do not store your full card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- We will give you advance notice of any change to your subscription price, and you may cancel if you do not wish to continue at the new price.
6. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time from your account settings or by emailing hello@lightbulblearning.co. Your subscription then runs until the end of the current billing period and will not renew. We don't refund partial months.
Yearly subscriptions: if you take out a yearly subscription and it isn't right for you, email us within the first 30 days and we'll refund you pro-rata for the unused portion.
Your statutory rights: if you are a consumer in the UK, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of taking out a subscription for a refund, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 — though if you ask to start using the service immediately within that period, any refund may be reduced to reflect the use you have already had. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
7. Acceptable use
When using Lightbulb, you agree not to:
- use the service unlawfully or in breach of these Terms;
- copy, resell, redistribute, or share access to our content or your account with people outside your household;
- attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, scrape, or gain unauthorised access to the service;
- misuse any interactive features.
8. Our content and intellectual property
All content, software, designs, and materials on Lightbulb are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them for your own (or your child's) private study while your account is active. You may not use them for any commercial purpose.
9. Privacy and your data
We take privacy seriously, particularly because our users include children. How we collect and use personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy. We handle personal data in accordance with UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
10. Availability and changes
We aim to keep Lightbulb available and working well, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, change, or withdraw features. We may also update these Terms; if we make significant changes we will take reasonable steps to let you know, and continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Our responsibility to you
We provide Lightbulb with reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses that are not a foreseeable result of our breach, or for losses relating to exam results or academic outcomes. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud — and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Ending these terms
You can stop using Lightbulb and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales. This does not affect any mandatory consumer protections available where you live.
